Madrid-based Lighting Design Collective (LDC) converted an abandoned oil silo in Helsinki, Finland into a public light show. Silo 468 sits right on the waterfront and is intended to create an urban landmark and new public space for the district. LDC made use of both natural and artificial light in developing the scheme. They used a bespoke software system that allowed 1280 LED domes are able to react to the environmental conditions. Changes in wind speed and direction, temperature, and weather created lighting patterns that were fluid, natural, and unique.
